Mozambique's hydro-powered Mozal smelter drew the world's highest CBAM aluminium default value (3.198 tCO₂e/t), above coal-based China and India. This report traces the anomaly to drought-era crisis data locked into a permanent trade barrier, and quantifies the verified-data fix at €10.19/MWh.
The EU's CBAM assigns Algeria's low-carbon DRI/EAF steel a blast-furnace default, raising its 2026 cost to €157.60/t versus €18.96 for verified data. This report quantifies the €139–256/t "Double Divergence" gap, its spread across Gulf producers, and how to close it.
The EU CBAM's definitive phase began in 2026. Kazakhstan's embedded carbon liability is ~1.49 Mt/yr, far below trade-share estimates and concentrated in four firms. Three mechanisms follow: Scope-1 confinement, a EUR 74/t data dividend for Kazchrome, and EUR 179M/yr rent leakage.
Argentina's aluminium and steel rank among the cleaner exporters in their sectors, yet face EU CBAM costs like far dirtier rivals. This facility-level study of ALUAR, Ternium, Acindar and Tenaris traces the gap to three institutional gaps, not emissions, pricing each to 2034.
Ghana's entire EU CBAM exposure runs through one aluminium smelter. Today the cost is a modest €38.6 per tonne, yet a programmed Annex II revision could push it toward €419. This report quantifies the trap: the best window to build compliance capacity is the one that feels least urgent.
While Qatar's direct EU CBAM exposure seems minor at €2M, its indirect risk via UAE precursor chains hits €5.8M. This TTI report defines Benchmark Transplant Distortion (BTD) and demonstrates how Article 15 mixed reporting pathways turn an apparent penalty into optimization.
EU CBAM and Canadian aluminium, read at the regulation's own parameters. Canada's default value exceeds India's and the Gulf's; the 2025 European surge traces to a 50% US tariff, not the carbon levy. Carbon Variable Order Transition shows when Scope 2 flips the result.
Terawatt Times' CBAM submission exposes "default-setting drift" across 13 jurisdictions, where default metrics misread carbon performance. We propose an audited per-origin translation component with a precision adjustment to safeguard the mechanism's structural durability.
Three structural findings from facility-level CBAM analysis of Bosnia: Transition Penalty Lock-in taxes recycled aluminium at primary rates, the Default Value Paradox makes punitive defaults cheaper than truth for steel, and Zero-Buffer Electricity Exposure erases export margins in spring.
Nigeria's only CBAM exposure is urea, yet EU exports fell 92% before the carbon levy even began. The cause is not the 1% mark-up but compliance friction. This report introduces Compliance-Deficit Competitiveness Impairment (CDCI), showing the €42/t penalty drops to €12/t.
Thailand's steel is almost all electric-furnace, yet CBAM fractures its exports by melt-origin, where the metal first solidified. Scrap-EAF rebar pays EUR 5.59/t in 2026; import-substrate flat steel and Indonesian-nickel stainless pay 25 to 100 times more.
In 2026 two Serbian steel plants face the same EU border under the same CBAM, yet a clean electric-arc producer pays 13x more once denied EU-accredited verification. This report maps Default Route Capture and Full-Spectrum Compliance Impedance across four institutional layers.
